SRINAGAR: Mohammad Yaseen Malik, the chief of the outlawed Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, was rushed to the Soura Medical Institute on July 31, 1994. Official sources said that Malik’s condition had “worsened” since he began an indefinite hunger strike on Saturday outside his Maisuma residence in Srinagar, demanding the removal of security bunkers from the Hazratbal shrine.
A chronic heart patient. Malik began the hunger strike on Saturday, soon after being released after nearly 40 hours in detention.
He along with 13 others was arrested when they tried to stage a sit-in dhama inside the shrine on Thursday evening. However, he and one of his associates, Mohammad Yaseen Khan, were set free.
Malik drove to the Hazratbal shrine again on Saturday evening to resume his sit-in dhama inside the shrine.
As his condition worsened on Sunday, the authorities shifted him to the medical institute, despite his Opposition, official sources said.
