LUDHIANA: The ad-hoc committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), recently, decided 10 boycott the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 and observe the historic day as “black day,” to protest against rampant corruption and malpractices in the Punjab administration and the alleged unabated police repression: on the people.
The committee resolved to stay away from all official functions that day, feeling consumed that the Punjabis were being denied freedom and civil rights in the state. It will be a silent protest and no call has been given to the people.
Instead, the party would hold a big political conference at Issru in this district on August 15.
