NEW DELHI: India’s major opposition parties early this week quit all committees of the Parliament and announced a boycott of the house, to protest against the Narasimha Rao government’s failure to lake any follow-up action on the recommendations made by a house committee which investigated the multi- billion rupee share scandal.

Earlier BJP Deputy Parliamentary Party leader Jaswant Singh announced on behalf of the parliamentary party that it had authorized its leader Atal Behari Vajpayee to announce the future course of action which may include resigning from the committees, the National Front-Left Front made a categorical announcement of their decision to quit Parliamentary committees. The formal announcement of the resignations will be made on Tuesday in the two Houses of Parliament, the NF-Left leaders said.

The NF-LP leaders declared that the Government’s disregard for the much toned down JPC report demonstrated its cavalier attitude towards Corruption in high offices and if the Opposition failed to raise the issue, the people will lose all faith in parliamentary democracy and the supremacy of parliamentary Institution.
