NEW DELHI: Even as Lt Governor P.K .Dave and Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana have locked horns over the 1984 riots cases indications are that indicted policemen will not be prosecuted for their involvement in the riots nor will any department action be initiated against them

Dr. A.P. Singh Director of Prosecution Delhi Administration has prepared a legal draft to bail them out. The draft is backed up by scores of Court judgments including a ruling of District and Session Judge D.K Jain in a similar case.

The Kapoor-Mittal Committee had indicted 72 police officials in the 1984 riots and had recommended summary dismissal of six IPS officers under Article 311 of the Constitution. Only one of the six officers has retired from service since 1984. As per information available with the Administration at least 20 policemen from the ranks of constable to DIG were to be charge sheeted. Some important names among them being O. P. Yadav Soorvir Singh Tyagi S.M. Bhaskar Durga Prasad (all SHOs then) Sewa Das (the then DCP East) and Jatav (Retired D.G Home Guards)The Secretary Law has already given a positive Opinion on the draft.
