AMBALA: Babbar Khalsa International, under the leadership of Jagtar Singh Hawara and Constable Balwant Singh, had conspired to assassinate Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, with help of human bombs, on member 16, at a public rally to be held at Pehowa.

The revelations were made by the human bomb, Kulbir Singh, who was presented before the press by the Superintendent of Police, B.S. Sandhu, in his office here.

Kulbir was arrested on January 1 following interrogation of Hawara, now in the custody of Ambala police.

Giving account of the plan to execute Bhajan Lal, Kulbir stated that he had agreed 10 act as human bomb after he ‘was baptized by Purushotam Singh slias Pamma resident of Matheri Shekhan to avenge the killings of the Sikhs in the 1984 Delhi riots following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He said since Pamma used to sell cloth and often visited his village, Khaspur Naggal, they came close when he asked Pamma to lend him Rs 10,000 for the marriage of his sister, Pamma fulfilled his requirements. Thereafter, Pamma stared talk in, him about plans to kill Bhajart ep ie the same way Beant Singh was assassinated. He coaxed him into acting as human bomb. At first, the killing was fixed for December 10 when the GM was to address meetings at Pchowa and Naggal, on AmbalaHisar road, which: were later cancelled. He said Pamma introduced him to Hawara as his brotherinlaw under the names Paramjit Singh alias Kala alias Gurmit Singh. Kulbir disclosed that he was asked to take Hawara and other militants 10 Khaspur where they would use his telephone. He said Hawara would talk on the phone for delivery of RDX ‘under the code word, ‘Asthma.” He disclosed that he was later taken to a house near Manay Chowk of Ambala City, where Pamma’s aunt had prepared two jackets to be used by the human bombs. He was then taken to Narwana to survey the venue of the Anaj Mandi where Mr. Bhajan Lal was to address the public rally.

After rehearsals, he was asked to go to the Golden Temple, Ammisar, to pray for his success in the mission.

On his retum, Kalbir was sent to Narwana to attend the rally and get close to the Chief Minister. But, he disclosed that he collide only enter the outer security ring of the Chief Minister and failed to get anywhere near his Later, they were revised und Kulbir was to launder the car of the CM as his convoy passed on his ‘way to Pehowa, on January 16, Thereafter, Hawara, Pamma and Balwant explained him the route of the Chief Minister and the sites near Mather Shekhan chowk. It was decided that he and Pamma would on the road and explode the bomb according to signals passed by Hawara and his associates, Later, Kulbir learnt about the police encounter with the militants at Matheri Shekhan chowk, on December 14 nigh, in which one constable was killed andan AST injured, However, Hawara told him on telephone that he should be ready forthe December 16 plan. On, the fixed date and time, Kulbir reached the place and waited for Hawara and pointed, he returned to his village. Mr. Sandhu said that interrogation of Kulbir was in progress and more sensational revelations were likely to come to light.
