CHANDIGARH: The acting president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr. Harcharan Singh Herp, has ceased to be the chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board putting an end 16 the controversy about his tenure. ‘The state government issued a notification last week appointing the Financial Commissioner, Development, Mr, V.K. Khanna, as the chairman of the Mandi Board.
Through another notification, the Stale government has vested the powers of the chief executive of the board with its secretary.
The term of the board of directors of the Mandi Board expired last month but Mr, Hero was claiming that his tenure was up to April next. The state ‘government has now taken the decision that his tenure was coterminous with the tenure of the board of directors.
The Agriculture Minister, Mr, Dilbagh Singh and Mr. Hero were not known to be maintaining cordial relations. The slate government had earlier withdrawn the financial powers from Mr. Hero.
