NEW DELHI: CPI (M) Member of Parliament Amal Dutta has been publicly censured by his party’s Politburo for attending the birthday party of Chandraswami in the Capital in November.
The latest issue of the CPI (M) party weekly People’s Democracy has published the censure, stating that Dutta’s act was “not in conformity with the party’s disapproval of so called god men indulging in dubious activities in public life.”
The birthday party was attended by former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal, Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan, BJP leader Vijaya Raje Scindia and several Ministers in the Rao Government.
CPI(M) General Secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet said the Politburo had to censure the Lok Sabha MP publicity as his presence at the celebrations had raised a “public controversy and damaged the party.”
