CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, last week, condemned the uncalled for interference by US president Bill Clinton in the internal affairs of the country, and deplored the attitude of Pakistan in aiding and abetting military in the state. Through a resolution passed at its meeting here, this was also attended by party MPs and MLAs the PPCC condemned various Akali groups for supporting the anti-India stand of the American president.
The resolution congratulated Chief Minister Beant Singh for his untiring efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Addressing the meeting, Beant Singh, who is also the PPCC president, alleged, the militants in connivance with the Akalis had conspired to destabilize the country and destroy its social fabric. He said these militants were trained by Pakistan and responsible for the killing of about 25,000 innocent persons during the last 12 years.
He singled out Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Gurcharan Singh Tohra who, he said, had brought a bad name to the Sikh community, with his misconceived policies and conspiracies in league with the foreign powers,
Tohra and other Akali leaders always played an anti-national role and connived with the elements who wanted to destroy Punjab. He said the misdeeds of such elements had done a great harm to the sanctity of the gurdwaras which the present government had restored with great efforts.
