NEW DELHI (PTI): The United Kingdom recently praised steps taken by India for greater transparency on the human rights issue especially the access provided to outsiders.

The visiting permanent undersecretary of the British common wealth and foreign office David Gilmore said the setting up of the national human rights commission by India was a positive step in this direction.

During his meeting with V.K.Grover secretary in the external affairs ministry Gill more said Britain understood India’s problems since it itself faced the problem of terrorism.

He reiterated the U.K position that the Kashmir issue should be settled bilaterally by India and Pakistan under the ages of the Shimla agreement.

Grover and Gill more noted that the extradition treaty between the two countries was in place and there was good cooperation in meeting the threat posed by terrorism.

An external affairs ministry Press release said they also discussed the Nexus between drugs and terrorism.

Grover referred to the strong support given by both governments towards strengthening of economic relations in general. Gilmore mentioned that the larger British companies were already showing interest and it was time to involve medium and smaller enterprises in strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
