LOS ANGELES: Members of Sikh community responded promptly to help victims of recent earth quake victims in Los Angeles area. Sikh youth provided thousands of meals to needy people since Jan.181994. Drop-off centers have been designated at different Gurdwaras to collect clean clothes blankets and non-perishable food items and delivering to the victims of earthquake. Most of the Gurdwaras from all over the United States have sent aid for the earthquake relief fund. Press had been very helpful by providing good coverage informing public about relief efforts and contact persons. The Punjabi Radio program produced by Dr.Harbans Singh
Sraon (KMAX FM 1071 every Saturday at 3 PM) coordinated relief efforts by dedicating entire program for this cause. A special program was organized on Jan30,1994 at Fullerton Senior Center in conjunction with celebration of Guru Gobind Singhs birthday by collecting clothes blankets and non-perishable food items and delivering to the victims of earthquake. There was over whelming response from the Sikh community to adhere to the mission of Guru Gobind Singh to serve humanity and they brought hundreds of needed items which were delivered to needy people of the same day in earth quake affected area.
