GANDHINAGAR; The Election Commission has fixed Nov.3094 as the final date for distribution of identify cards to the citizens
No excuse such as lack of funds will be entertained for non-compliance said Chief Election Commissioner T.N Seshan while releasing an agenda at the two-day regional conference of returning officers which concluded here recently.
The governments said the chief electoral officers had to find ways and means for raising the funds and the commission will correspond with neither the Central Government nor any State Government. On this issue the agenda clarified
The expenditure on the first issue Of the identity cards to the electorate will initially be met by the State Governments and will be shared equally by the Central Government and the state governments later just as the expenditure on electoral rolls the agenda informed.
The commission directed that no polling will take place at until all the eligible voters have been supplied with photo-identity cards.
This was also applicable to the annual poll which will be taken after January 1995 the agenda Stated
