OTTAWA: Sikhs are guided by a simple tri-formula of life given to them by Guru Nanak: (1) Earn your livelihood by the sweat of your brow; (2) Share your earnings with the less fortunate ones; and (3) Worship the Lord with love and devotion. Such tenets of our religion inherently support the recent reform announced by Citizenship and Immigration.
This policy will substantially relieve the burden on taxpayers to Support social programs and will also provide refugee claimants the Opportunity to become more productive members of Canadian society.
Ata time when continual human rights abuses occur globally and many of the oppressed seek refuge in Canada it is very heartening to note that refugee claimants will not be asked to sacrifice what is left of their dignity after suffering such horrific violations in their country of origin. Their hopes for a bright and peaceful future in Canada will be supported by the requirement to find gainful employment and contribute to the Prosperity of their new home.
The Honorable Sergio Marchi is implementing a policy that is considerably more practical and efficient and promotes the Canadian objective for equality and dignity for all. We congratulate him.
