AMRITSAR: Former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Mr Buta Singh on Jan.25 presented himself before the highest Sikh seat Sri Akal Takhat to seek forgiveness and to offer atonement for his acts of Commission and commission to the Sikh Panth and for his being instrumental in organizing a Government sponsored Kar Seva for the reconstruction of Sri Akal Takhat which had been badly damaged during the Operation Bluestar in June 1984 It may be recalled that the Supreme power of Sikh religion-Head of Sri Akal Takhat had declared Buta Singh as Tankhaiya (traitor) of Sikh Panth when he had refused to appear before the Supreme seat Sri Akal Takhat.

According to the reports Sri Akal Takhat Jathedar Prof. Manjit Singh however accepted Buta Singhs four-page penance appeal but fixed Wednesday for final Settlement of his offense.

Mr. Gurcharan Singh Tohra was informed in Chandigarh during press conference of a selected few newsmen here Tuesday. It is well known after Operation Bluestar in June 1984 Buta Singh who was the then Union Minister had been instrumental in soliciting the

services of the Nihang Chief Santa Singh for undertaking Kar-Sews to begin reconstruction of the holiest Sikh seat of religio-political power Political observers feel that Buta Singhs decision is likely to change the political scenario in the state where the Sikhs and Akalis have been demanding fresh elections to restore full democracy in Punjab it also marks the end of the Buta Singh: Beant Singh honeymoon in the State Congress observers pointed out.
