CHANDIGARH: A DSP Ashok Kumar beat up a journalist Surinder Thukral very badly in Kaithal fast week
The fault of Thukral who is correspondent of Dainik Tribune at Kaithal was that he dared to question the DSP who is still on probation why he was beating up a group of people near the bus stand at Kaithal
The audacity of Thukral infuriated the DSP who let his ire on the scribe not satisfied after giving several lathi blows to Thukral the DSP. Ordered his men to take him to the police station
Thukral was made to lie on the floor and four men gave him a severe beating and then shut him up in the lockup. When local journalists learnt about Thukrants fate they went to the police station and pleaded with the DSP To release the journalist. However the DSP allegedly threatened to shoot them if they did not leave the police station.
The injured newsmen has been admitted to hospital The S.P. told the newsmen that Ashok Kumar had been sent on leave and he would try for the transfer of the erring DSP. However he expressed helplessness in taking action against the police officer
The Haryana Union of Journalists has demanded that the DSP should be immediately faced under suspension and arrested for assaulting a newsman on duty. The HUS president said if the Government failed to take action against the DSP the journalists of Haryana would be compelled to launch an agitation in the state
