DETROIT: The future of Sikhism depends on the involvement of our   generation in the Sikh issues of today and tomorrow. With this vision the Michigan Sikh Students Circle   (M.S.S.C) held their first Sikh conference 10 explore enigmatic Sikh is| sues facing the youth today. The goal of this conference was to promote | awareness and involvement in these issues.

The conference which was held during the Thanksgiving holidays (Nov.25-Nov28) in Detroit’s Renaissance Center was open to all students concemed with Sikh issues. Young adults from all over the United States and Canada ages 18-32 attended the conference there was an overwhelming response for this conference but the M.S.S.C. due to operational 1ogistics was only able to accommodate approximately 100 youth. The following topics were covered: Fue true of Sikhism Dr. Gurinder Mann Sikh Scholarship –Dr John Spellman Feminism & Equality Dr Joseph T.O Connell; Sikh Image in North America Dr Pashaura Singh

The discussions were and expressed a diversity of viewpoints among the youth reflecting their various backgrounds and awareness in Sikh issues In addition to this academic study of these issues the conference included a social agenda which consisted of small group activities team events and a Bhangra/American dance.

The success of this conference reflected a heightened interest among the youth in exploring issues facing the Sikhs in the future.
