OTTAWA: A frustrated Prime Minister Jean Chretien has called for a review of Canada’s Boy Scout role in Bosnia saying Canadians are tired of being pushed around
Chretien said in an interview that the December incident in which Canadian soldiers were harassed by drunken Bosnian Serbs may have galvanized opinion in this country.
He said Canada will honor its commitment of 2000 soldiers in the former Yugoslavia until April But he made no commitments beyond that.
There is a limit sometimes to being a Boy Scout Chretien said I have decided we should debate it in Parliament
Canadians like to fight back. They don’t like to be pushed around.
Chretien is expected to push for a more equitable sharing of the peacekeeping burden when he attends a NATO summit in Brussels soon.
