Immigration Minister Sergio Marchi was to begin cleaning house last week at the immigration and Refugee Board naming replacements for 28 Tory appointees. Among the new faces is an ardent refugee advocate who will be deputy chairperson of the federal tribunal that decides refugee claims. A spokesperson for Marchi said that 28 members of the refuges boardb appointed during Brian Mulroney’s years as prime minister will be dumped. Their contracts ended and will not be renewed. Five members whose contracts expired last week will stay on.
