ISLAMABAD: On the eve of the Foreign Secretary level talks the Senate Pakistan’s upper house of Parliament last week passed a unanimous resolution demanding withdrawal of Indian forces from Kashmir and release of jailed political leaders. The Senate also constituted a special house committee to monitor violations of human rights in Kashmir A Similar committee headed by the veteran politician Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan has been constituted by the National assembly. The resolution at the conclusion of a discussion in the upper house was piloted by Senator Prof. Khurshid Ahmed and the leader of the Opposition Muhammad Ali Khan.

Stressing that a political solution to the Kashmir issue was the imperative the resolution said the negotiations could be fruitful if certain conditions were met these included stoppage of alleged repression in the valley involvement of Kashmiri leadership in the parleys and visible reduction of troops leading to total withdrawals of forces.

 Negotiations the resolution said should be directed at a final solution of the dispute in accordance with the UN. Resolutions and commitments of the Government of India and that of Pakistan.
