NEW DELHI: Lt. General Shankar Roy Chowdhury, senior most general in the Indian Army after General B.C. Joshi, has been appointed as the new Chief of the Anny Staff.
Lt. General Chowdhury, who is ‘commanding officer of the Simla based Army Training Command (ARTRAC), will take over as the 18th COAS at a special ceremony. ‘The 57yearold general, who was prior to General Joshi’s death due to retire in September 1995, will now lead the fourth largest Army in the world till September 1997.
