NEW DELHI: In a swift move Delhi Police arrested former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kalyan Singh from the party headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road, for “grossest contempt of court,” following the Supreme Court’s ‘Conviction of the leader.
Asa posse of policemen and BJP Supporters waited for Mr. Singh in front of the Supreme Court, the BJP leader was whisked away in a car by the SHO from Ashoka Road to Tihar Jail. “I am happy to go to jail for the Ram temple,” Singh said as he was being arrested. Only a few supporters were around to Voice appreciation.
‘The Supreme Court had found Singh guilty of contempt of court for allowing kar seva al the acquired land and construction of permanent platform in front of the makeshift Ram temple at Ayodhya and sentenced him to a day’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2.000. The Supreme Court had directed the police to take Kalyan Singh into custody and take him to Tihar Jail for a day or a shorter period” which the court was to decide after the warrant was executed.
