NEW DELHI: A Division Bench of the Supreme Court declined to bail to film actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been detained in Thane jail in Maharashtra since July 4 when the TADA judge, J.N. Patel denied bail to him.
In a short order read out at the apex court last week Justice Jecvan Reddy, on behalf of Justices G.N Ray and N.P.Singh, said that they were not inclined to enlarge the petitioner on bail at this juncture. They added that therefore the petition was accordingly rejected.
The three judges said that it was going to the petitioner to renew his request for bail before the designated court after his defense evidence is adduced at the trial.
According to the charge sheet Dutt procured three AK56 rifles, 9mm pistol, 25 hand grenades and cartridges on January 16 last year when riots were taking place in Bombay, He later returned two AK56 rifles and some of the cartridges to those who supplied it to him.
