CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, has admitted in an affidavit, filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, last week that he may have forwarded applications of certain persons who had approached him for helping them in getting a job. But the recommendations made by him, however, did not mean that an official order was given to the then Deputy Commissioner of Mansa, Dr. Swaran Singh, for selecting the said candidates.
Beant Singh has admitted that it may we be that certain persons may not be eligible and they might not have even applied for such a post in the prescribed time. Therefore these endorsements are in the nature of only forwarding the applications of the concerned persons. to the DC. The petitioner, Jasbir Singh, in his counter reply has sought the appearance of the Chief Minister in the High Court on the grounds of ‘mala fide’ as he had admitted his intervention in the selection process. The counsel for the petitioner, P.S. Teji, has dwelled on annexures in which, according to him, the CM had used the words “to accommodate” and “for appointment” of about 13 candidates for the posts of clerks, assistants etc. in the newly created district of Mansa. The political secretary of the CM, Gunmit Singh had already admitted that he had sent some recommendations at his own level, without the knowledge of the CM.
