CHICAGO: Singh Sahib Bhai Manjit Singh ji Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahil visited Chicago area from August 5 to August &, 1994. On August S evening, Singh Sahib accompanied by De Kehar Singh, Head, Department of Political Science. Punjabi University, Patiala was welcomed at the airport by Punj Maras and member of the community, from the airport, Singh Sahib visited the Gurmat Camp for children organized by the Sikh Religious Society of Chicago.
On August 6, Singh Sahib met with Sikh Youth in the morning. In the afternoon, Singh Sahib had a meeting with Chicago area Sikh Community members who had been or are DT. Present associated with the Gurdwara Sahib management. His main emphasis was to leave Manmat and manage the Gurdwara Sahib according 10 Gurmat. Singh Sahib advised everybody present there to sink any differences among themselves, everybody present bowed their heads to Singh Sahib’s wish. Singh Sahib Funher advised not to fight with each other in gaining the control of Gurdwara Sahib Management. In case of any problem, all Sikhs should sill together, tum their faces towards Sn Guru Granth ‘Sahib Ji, discuss the problem and get its solution through Gunit, Then till fighting among the Sikhs will cease to exist.
Singh Sahib further said that only an individual has problems and not a Sikli, We should see each other as a Sikh and not an individual, Every Sikh should take “Khande Di Pahul”, Singh Sahib gave the example as to how the disputes between the 12 Missiles were stilled. In case of any dispute between the Misls, their heads came to Sri Akal Takhat Sahib leaving their weapons outside. The Jathedar of Si Akal Takhat Sahib sat behind Sri Guru Granth Sahib. All the disputes were discussed in front of Si Guru Granth Sahib till the solutions to the disputes were agreed to by all the heads of the Missals. It was immaterial how much time it took to reach at a common decision. This was called a “Gurmata”, Singh Sahib was really pained from the happenings in Gurdwara Sahibs in New York and Virginia. Such happenings should be avoided at all co: these bring a bad name to the whole community.
Intervening, after giving away prizes to the children who had attended the Gurmat Camp, Singh Sahib performed melodious “Gurbani Keenan and Katha for “about an hour. The evening Divan ended with Singh Sahib performing Ardas and taking Hukamnamas. The Divan Hall of the Chicago Gurdwara Sahib was packed to the capacity. August 7 was Sunday, on every Sunday, a regular Divan is: bled and attended in lines numbers by Chicago areca Sadh Sangat. Singh Sahib again performed melodious Gurbani Keenan and Katha for about an hour and then answered Questions from the Sadh Sangat. After that Singh Sahib and Dr Kehar Singh were given Saropas by the Sadh Sangat. This Divan, also, ended with Singh Sahib performing Ardas and taking Hukamnamas Singh Sahib and Dr, Kehar Singh Jef Chicago on the morning of August 8.
