NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President, N.D‘Tewari’s threat to resign from his post in protest against meddling in the state party affairs from New Delhi has come as a jolt to the Congress high command.
Tiwari’s resignation threat, which follows an equally melodramatic protest by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, K. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, over hurling of abuses.
It indicates that the chasm between the party’s slate bosses and the central leadership was widening and the party’s regional satraps were unwilling to suffer New Delhi’s dictates any longer.
Though the AICC spokesman, Chandulal Chandrakar laughed away reported resignation threats from Tewari and Reddy as “nonsense.” highly placed sources confirmed that the two leaders had expressed their unhappiness at the treatment meted to them in no uncertain terms.
Tewari himself said in Lucknow I am under tremendous pressure from my Supporters to resign. However, I will think it over for some time and announce my decision within two or three days.”’
