NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court lust were ordered a CBI inquiry into the custodial death of a 20year old Sikh youth, Kuldip Singh, who died two days after his return from Germany on May 30 while in detention by the Indira Gandhi International Airport Police and awarded an immediate compensation of Rs | lakh to his father, Ajit Singh. A resident of Baljit Nagar, West Delhi.
Chief Justice .S. Verma Verkatchatinh and Justice JS. Verma directed the CBI1o submit their report within a month and asked the Slate of Delhi to pay the Compensation amount awarded by them to Ajit Singh, within three weeks. The two judges made it clear that this amount was independent of any amount Ajit Singh might secure in civil proceedings.
‘The two judges deprecated the way in which Assistant Commissioner Police Hira Lal and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr. Aditya Ari gave a clean chit to the police officials of the Indira Gandhi International Airport Polite, These officials have been charged by RS.Sodhii, Counsel for Ajit Singh, with torturing his client’s son as they failed to get the bribe they demanded from him.
The two judges were also critical of the postmortem report of the police doctors which merely listed the many injuries on the body of Kuldip Singh marks of electric shocks and abrasions due to blows.
