ISLAMABAD: Benazir Bhutto has demanded the resignation of Pakistan president Ghulam Ishaq Khan, accusing him of plundering public exchequer for the benefit of his relatives and favorites.
Ishaq Khan had also shut his eyes to the activities of his son-in-law who was allegedly involved in cases of murder, abductions and large scale corruption, she said.
Addressing a well-attended public rally at the Jinnah Park in Peshawar on Monday, she charged Ishaq Khan with taking a partisan attitude and acting like the chief of the ruling the government.
Bhutto claimed that she was sacked by president Ishaq Khan for vehemently resisting his moves to “grab benefits” for his relatives. The Pakistan president should do some “soul searching”, she said
She said while her government was dismissed on false charges of corruption, the president has made no effort to file references against those involved in the massive cooperatives scandal in Punjab.
Presidential references against Bhutto on charges of abuse of office during her 20month tenure are pending before specials courts in Karachi and Lahore. If found guilty, among other things, Bhutto can be disqualified and barred from contest-
