UNITED NATIONS: India has criticized the regimes in Myanmar and Fiji for “mass and flagrant “violations of human rights (India is itself perhaps the worst offender in this regard) Speaking in a United Nations committee on human rights, Indian representative Mani Shankar Aiyar charged the Myanmar regime with depriving people of their democratic rights and Fiji for trying to ins nationalize racial discrimination
Referring to human rights violations in Myanmar, Aiyar said India hoped the regime would immediately release Nobel Prize winner Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, ‘other elected representatives of the people and political leaders and enable them to assume their “rightful place in the national a fairs of their country.”
India calls upon “Myanmar to accept the verdict of the people and restore democracy in that country in line with the electoral Process which that government itself had put in train”, he said.
