NEW DELHI: Romania is reported to have sought U.S. help to put pressure on Sikh militants to release its Charge D Affaires in Delhi Radu from their captivity. Romani as foreign minister who visited Delhi early this month told Indian Prime Minister about his country’s initiative ingesting U.S. help. Indian Prime Minister did not object and, in fact, scored a point by suggesting that “the forces behind the kidnapping” was Pakistan and the US. Administration should put pressure on Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, the Panthic committee associated with Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal released a statement criticizing the abduction and said that the Sikh movement worldwide had been discredited.
The Indian official media also released a statement attributed to the panthic committee associated with Baba Jaffarwal criticizing the abduction and asking the Sikh militants in Punjab to release the Romanian officer immediately.
Meanwhile, there was no response so far from the leadership of Sikh militants which appears to be busy coping with the likely problems arising out of the large scale deployment of India’s army in Punjab during the next few weeks.
