NEW DELHI (PTI): India’s missile, aircraft and battle tank projects HS ala tight production and economic condemnations would not be allowed to affect the operational defence pre Paredness, premier minister Narasimha Rao has said. Addressing members of the defence parliamentary consultative committee the prime minister said India’s Performance in these fields Was comparable to the best in the world and that the defence research and development Organization was following alight production schedule in close interaction with user Organizations, Rao made it clear that even though various effects were being Made to effect economy in expenditure, these would not be allowed t0 compromise with defence operation preparedness.
He informed the members that Privatization in defence production was being increased in a phased manner. The prime minister said that full scale production of the highly sophisticated third generation state of an antitank Missile *nag* had already been undertaken by the Bharat dynamics and that these missiles would soon be made available to the army. Asa result of streamline of logistic system, “teeth to tail” ratio of the Indian army has considerably improved and is at present one of the best among the large armies of the world, he added.
