SRINAGAR (PTI): India’s paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) achieved a major success in the Kashmir valley Dec.19 when they captured Ashan Dar, “Supreme Commander” of Muslim Mujahedeen, and breakaway group of Pro Pak Hizbul Mujahedeen.
“Master” Ashan Dar, who formed the Hizbul, a militant wing of Jamat e islami in 1990, became its supreme commander and has been evading arrest since then. He was arrested from a government flat in Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar, a beaming BSF spokesman said.
Dar was arrested in 1988 but had escaped from the SMHS hospital and formed Hizbul Mujahedeen following differences with the top leadership. He was sacked from the commander’s post in 1992 and later kidnapped by rival factions. He was released following the intervention of Jamaat leaders, including Ali Shah Jeelani.
He was arrested along with his deputy and financial chief, Ghulam Mohiudin and some local trained militants.
