JAMMU (PTI): Fencing of the Punjab border with Pakistan and the tight vigil maintained by security forces has forced the narcotic smugglers to shift their activities to the border districts of Jammu, reports daily ‘Indian Express.”

In 1993, paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) seized narcotic contraband for the first time in Jammu frontier, stretching from Punjab border to Akhnoor sector in the state, In all, more than2&kg of heroin, opium and charas were seized during the year till Nov, .30, 1993, an attempt was also foiled to smuggle in 410 gold biscuits worth more than Rs 20 million during the period.

In additional to smuggling, the international border in Jammu frontier remained active due to repeated attempts by Pakistan to push in armed militants, arms and ammunition.
