BOMBAY: The toll Saturday climbed to 15 in the bomb blast which ripped through a commuter packed bogie of a local train in Bombay’s Kalyan suburb with no clues yet to the worst ever bomb explosion in India’s trade capital

Two more persons succumbed to injuries in hospitals in the morning, while 20 of the 64 injured were batting for life, hospital and police sources said.

According to preliminary reports, the bomb, concealed in a bag, was kept in the aisle and it went off as the commuters were lighting from the Ambernath-bound train at the Kalyan station.

The train was waiting for the green signal for its onward journey when the blast occurred, leaving a gaping hole of two feet by one and a half feet in the aisle of the com parchment.

So powerful was the blast that fragments of the bomb pierced through the adjoining compartment.

The bodies of only 12 victims had been identified. Three died in the stampede on the platform.

“The incident sent shock waves in the metropolis and adjoining than district which have seen a spate of explosions in the past two years with no breakthrough in investigations.
