FRESNO: An impressive get together in honor of Congressman Cal Dooley by area Sikhs was held here on Nov.8 at the Ramada Inn.

Dr. Harcharan Singh Chann welcomed Mr. Dooley, Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh and the 140 prominent Sikhs in attendance. S. Sohan Singh Sul introduced the Congressman as a successful San Joaquin. Valley  farmer and a progressive lawmaker.

Dr. Mohinder S.Poonia detailed the terrible plight of Sikhs in India. S.Param S. Fagoora spoke of the Sikhs’ diligence and hard work. He said they had successfully established themselves in the U.S.

Dr. Aulakh praised Mr. Dooley for raising his voice against the repression let loose on Sikhs by the govt of India.

Mr. Dooley thanked the Sikhs for their support and said many bills against aid to India were likely in the future and he would support them as he had the Burton Bill.

Dr.Kulwant S. Sidhu, Superintendent Mendota District School  Board also spoke against the foreign aid to India which he said was used for brutalizing and suppressing Sikhs and other minorities, He also felt that the Sikhs needed to send their own representative to Congress.

The Gill brothers who own a successful farm insurance agency were appreciated for making the function a success, S. Mohinder. Grewal’s efforts were also praised.
