He was the grandfather of Bhai Sukhminder Singh Sandhu who along with Bhai Ranjit Singh Ji Gill is interned in the New York jail for the alleged murder of A.S.Vaidya, the villain of infamous Blue Star Operation of June 6.1984,
Sardar Bachan Singh Ji was a self-made man, during his life, he spent many Years in. Burma and
Then in Kisangani, W. Bengal, transport business, before finally settling down in Ludhiana, He was a very simple man with a great sense of humor. Those who had the opportunity of meeting him will always remember his wit and humor in typically Panjabi get together
Sardar Bachan Singh Sandhu Leaves behind three daughters, one son and many grandchildren. He was predeceased by son many years ago.
Speaking at the Sikh Cultural Society Gurdwara in New York on October 27, 1991, S,Amarjit Singh Buttar paid glowing tributes to the memory of late Bachan Singh Sandhu whom he had known over the years in India He along with the Sangat, offered support to Bhai Sukhminder Singh Sandhu at this sad time.
