LUCKNOW: Chief minister of the nor them Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh Tuesday said Janata Dal leader VP Singh was arrested while proceeding to Ayodhya (the temple town in Uttar Pradesh) to participate in the Dharma and Satyagraha (demonstration) there, the call for which was given by the National Front Left Front combine. He was later let off the same evening (Oct 29).
Last week Simranjit Singh Mann was arrested outside Delhi as he was proceeding to Ayodhia. He was let off after four days.
Talking to reporters here Tuesday evening, Kalyan Singh said the arrest was made from the point of view of Singh’s security and also for preventing breach of peace in the temple town.
The Dharma was to protest against the demolition of some temples at Ayodhia and the agitation of land near the disputed site by the Uttar Pradesh government.
