CHANDIGARH: Militants associated with Dr. Sohan Singh-led Panthic committee have directed the traditional Alkalis to wind up the ant repression commie set up following the Anandpur Sahib conclave.
Individual members of the committee, it is reported, have been told by the militants to submit their renegotiations of the committee as it was not based on Sikh principles, Serious consequences would result in the event ‘of the committee members not Gutting, the communication added.
The committee gave a call for Punjab strike which was a big success but its plan to mobilize the Sikhs in a big way to join Bhai Rajasthani’s memorial service at Fatehgath Sahib and an anti-re- press ion rally at Ludhiana was not impressive.
Evidently, the militants have sensed that the old Alkalis might try to use the anti-repression campaign to have their leaders built up again to play a role in the fourth coming election.
This clear that the anti-repression committee lacks a sense of political direction, Most of its ‘members tried to view the police repression as a phenomenon isolated from the Sikh politics. An impression was allowed to be spread that the Alkalis represented the mainstream Sikh polities and that they were trying to rescue the militants from the police clutches. ‘Thus the earlier admission that the militants represented the mainstream Sikh politics was more a man oeuvre than a genuine change of heart on the part of Alkalis, it is argued by many
