NEW DELHI-: Heavy rain and resultant landslides floods and house collapses in several areas in northern India have taken a toll of 182 this season with 18 people succumbing to the inclement weather conditions on Friday.
A report from Lucknow the capital of the genetic state of Uttar Pradesh said heavy rains and floods in some of the major rivers took the rain related toll in the state to 107 Thursday as 13 more deaths were reported since Wednesday.
Seventeen people died in Bulandshahar three in Moradabad and three in Jaunpur districts; Five persons were killed in house collapse incidents in the densely populated industrial city of Kanpur earlier this week delayed reports said.
Five members of a family were” Thursday killed when their house: collapsed in a landslide in Hamirar district of Himachal Pra ir widespread heavy rains in the hill State.
Scattered rains were also reported from many parts of Haryana Punjab and sharp evening showers cooled Chandigarh.
Following heavy downpour in its catchment river Kali was in spate submerging low lying areas in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar district while police was busy rescuing marooned people in the” state’s Deoria district where the Burhi Gandak river had breached embankment Monday.
India’s longest river Ganga was reported rising from Kanpur to” Ballia in eastern Uttar Pradesh and had crossed the red mark al Ghazipur town.
Two of the state’s arterial high ways that were closed due to heavy rains were likely to be reopened by Saturday.
