BOMBAY: Soviet Union has not altered its commitment to detente, while modernization of its defence systems was u way with continued emphasis on sec despite the Current political upheaval country, USSR naval force commander Vice Admiran V.N Sergeev, has said.
Sergeev said this during an informal chat with Correspondents on board the USSR anti-submarine naval ship, Admiral Spiridonov which was berthed at the Indira dock on its arrival at the Bombay port Thursday.
The naval ship is on its third visit Indian Waters to mark the 20TH anniversary of Indo Soviet friendship treaty THE ship launched in 1984, visited Bombay in 1985 and later Cochin in 1989. Vice admiral Sergeey said the Soviet armaments were extremely reliable what is good we should keep and what is bad we should discard, he remarked, referring to modernization of the Soviet navy.
Though the soviet military doctrain was not totally defensive we would 1% give an inch of our territory, he said referring to secessionism in part of the U S S R.
