BANGALORE: An LTTE militant killed himself in Bangalore Friday to evade arrest while another who also swallowed cyanide is in a serious condition in hospital.

The CBI men raided it at 1230 hrs Friday and even as they broke in the militants took cyanide. The police team administered an antidote sodium this sulphate immediately but one of the militants died. Doctors are struggling to save the life of the other

Only last Sunday two LTTE militants killed themselves in Coimbatore as a police party laid siege to their house. One of them was Dixon wanted in the Rajiv assassination case.

DR Karthikeyan head of the special investigating team (SIT) probing the assassination who flew in from Madras told newspersons that he could not reveal the identity of the militants as it would hamper further investigations

Intelligence sources said the body of the dead militant bore the scars of several wounds

Giving details of the operation Karthikeyan said the police team had gone to the house sufficiently prepared for any exigency. The raiding team had included a doctor and despite his best efforts one of the militants died.

Karthikeyan who inspected the house said the team did not find any fire-arms in the premises.

All out efforts are being made to save the life of the LTTE militant in hospital the SIT chief said.

Police have tightened security around Bowring hospital where the surviving LTTE activist is under treatment. Police have virtually banned entry of the public. A large number of curious people thronged the hospital on learning of the arrest. The CBI in association with the state intelligence bureau has been maintaining strict vigil in various strategic points in this garden city including airports railway and bus stations ever since the assassination and subsequent search for prime suspect one-eyed Sivarasan and accomplice Subha.

The sleuths of the CBI and the police had launched a massive search for Sivarasan and Subha here last month after an anonymous call was received that they had been sighted moving around in an auto rickshaw in the city.

Doordarshan daily displays photographs of the two and the CBI has been getting several calls from the public that they had spotted people resembling Sivarasan and Subha in various parts of the city.

It is not known on what information Friday’s raid was conducted.
