NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday demanded an apology from human rights bodies particularly the Citizens for Democracy headed by Justice Tarkunde for joining the war against the State launched by anti-national elements by maligning security forces in the Kashmir valley.

The BJP secretary Mr J.P.Mathur based his demand on the finding of the Press Council of India that the reports of atrocities and human rights violations by security forces in Kupwara that appeared in a section of the Indian and foreign Press were entirely baseless. Talking to reporters here Mr Mathur said the Govt would be fully within its rights to treat this section of the press as antinational and deny it facilities meant for the media.

He stated: The malignant Kupwara report of the Citizens for Democracy has coincided with anti-India efforts now on in some parts of the world like the USA over the Kashmir issue He alleged that the proposed amendment in the Inter-national Military Education. Training Program (IMET) in the USA was part of the continuing campaign to assist the separatists in Punjab Kashmir and the north east.

Mr Mathur said that the firing at unarmed and peaceful kar sevaks (at Ayodhya) resulting in the killing of a number of them: did not stir the conscience of human rights bodies. For them the major it community is not entitled to human rights in India he alleged.   He said these organizations were unwittingly playing into the hands of certain elements in the USA who wanted to Indian security forces to sabotage the p Tees cooperation in the pur of the necessary defence technology that country.
