NEWPORT RI: The Patiala Medical College Alumni Association convention was held here June 27-29. As in past years the function was a great success. During the gathering which consisted of almost 70 families and 200 people there were extra events such as a boat cruise cultural Program and a tennis tournament for all ages. The gathering took 3 days and 3 nights.
Dr Ajit Pal Singh Sandhu of Fremont to be elected President of the Alumni Association for 1993 CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress (I) on Monday decided to launch a 10-day mass contact campaign in view of the election in the state which the party expects would be rescheduled to enable it to participate in it
The campaign would start from July 27 and cover the whole state from block level upwards. A state level rally would be held in August the date and venue for which is yet be finalised.
APPCC (I) spokesman said that a number of central leaders of the party would address campaign meetings including those in problem areas. The party had been lying low for about one year primarily because of its defeat in the 1980 Lok Sabha elections.
The spokesman said the party would raise its voice in support of Punjab’s demands particularly in territorial and river waters issues. It is likely to submit a memorandum to the Union home minister Mr S.B.Chavan when he visits Chandigarh in the near future.
The meeting was attended by office-bearers and members of the PPCC(I) executive district presidents and heads of front organisations. The current political situation in the state was also thoroughly discussed the spokesman said.
