CHANDIGARH: Four assembly candidates were among 114 persons killed in Punjab since June 6

Varinder Kumar Gagan of CPM contesting election from the Nakodar assembly constituency and three others in Jalandhar district were shot dead by militants Saturday night.

Jagga Singh an independent candidate for the Sangrur assembly seat was shot dead by suspected militants Friday night. Amolak Singh a CPI candidate from Panjgrain and Charanjit Singh an independent from Dibra seat in Sangrur were also shot dead Tuesday and Wednesday.

The elections for the Dibra Panjgrain Nakodar and the Sangrur assembly seats have been countermanded.

So far 20 candidates contesting elections in 22 a assembly seats and one candidate for the Ludhiana parliamentary scat have been killed in the state so far.

Militants ambushed the car of Gagan near village Littran in Jalandhar district while he was returning after addressing an election meeting reports said here.

His two securitymen and a CPM worker were also killed in the ambush and three other securitymen injured.

Three car borne suspected militants shot dead Jagga Singh near village Jolian in Sangrur district while he was returning from the village after canvassing.

His gunman Bhawar Singh a Punjab home guard Jawan was also seriously injured. He was admitted to a hospital.

A top militant escaped from a police station and two militants were arrested during the period. Two state assembly candidates escaped unhurt in militant attacks while 23 people including an area commander of KLF Dil Bagh Singh and nine other militants were killed Sunday night.

Area commander Bhai Dilbagh Singh alias Bagga was shot dead in an encounter with security forces near Dulonangal village in Amritsar district.

Police said the slain militant was wanted in several cases of killings and extortions

Devinder Singh Cheema an independent candidate from the Jagraon assembly consistency in Ludhiana district escaped an attempt on his life while his driver was killed late Sunday.

Cheema was returning from village Malsian Bajan after addressing election meetings late Sunday when he was attacked by armed militants near Jagraon. His driver Piara Singh was killed in the firing. Armed men stopped AMolak Singh’s car while he was canvassing and fired from automatic weapons killing him a Punjab police constable a special police officer (SPO) and four civilians who were in his car. The assailants escaped.

Khalistan commando force Area Commander (Panjwar group) for Ropar district Palwinder Singh was killed in an encounter in the Chamkaur Sahib area police said.

Bhai Balwinder Singh alias Baghela Lt.General of the Khalistan Commando Force (Wassan group) was among all people killed Saturday.

June 11 Surinderpal Singh consumed cyanide after being injured in police firing near Patiala.
