PATIALA: Punjabi University Teachers Association has appealed to the Governor of Punjab who is also the Chancellor of the university to order the release of the teachers arrested by the police. The association which met under Singh in a resolution deplored the use of third degree methods of interrogation used on Prof Sukhdial Singh. Another Teacher and four students were also arrested by the police for distributing sweets on the death of Rajiv Gandhi.

Prof Sukhdial Singh who was arrested by the Patiala police last week for distributing sweets to “celebrate” the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi faces charges under terrorist laws for giving shelter to certain militants.

Six Bhutan officials seek asylum in Nepal.

KATHMANDU: A group of six senior officials of the Royal Bhutanese govt June 2 sought political asylum in Nepal “due to the political crisis in the kingdom of Bhutan” reports PTI.
