NEPEAN ONT: The World Sikh Organization of Canada is holding a banquet in memory of the June 4th Anniversary in the Parliament buildings of Ottawa. Eleven Members of Parliament will be present as guests representing all three political parties. Three Police Services will be represented as well as representatives of various ethnic communities.

Dr John Spellman a human rights activist will versed in the Sikh struggle will be one of the guest speakers. He will speak on the latest Amnesty International Report on Punjab.

Dr.Laurie Weisberg of the University of Ottawa will speak on Human Rights Activists the risks they take and the problems they run into.

On June4 1984, when the Golden Temple of Amritsar was filled to overflowing with worshippers (as this is a holy day in Sikh Religion) the Indian Government attacked this holy shrine and indiscriminately killed men women and children.

The military was deployed throughout Punjab and simultaneously 40other gurdwaras were attacked Thousands died.

Two days later once again the army was used to destroy the Sikh Archives. Valuable hand written historical documents and religious relics were all burned and destroyed

The Sikhs in Canada remember June 4 as a sad anniversary of man’s inhumanity to man collectively we mourn this great tragedy.

The military code word for this atrocity was Operation Bluestar.
