ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has denied Indian allegations that it is sending infiltrators into the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir to aid and abet militant activities there.

A Pakistan foreign office spokesman here Sunday expressed surprise and concern at the tone and substance of the reported remarks by Indian premier Chandra Shekhar warning Pakistan against meddling in Kashmir and asserting that it would have to Pay a heavy price for sending saboteurs to the valley.

In a statement the spokesman said the Indian prime minister was trying to pin the blame on Pakistan for what he termed as the “uprising” of the people of the state and their right to self-determination.

Islamabad has in recent weeks stepped up its anti-India propaganda on Kashmir. While on the one hand Pakistani leaders have been branding India as an “oppressor” on the other it has been extending full support to the separatists.

Earlier this week the Indian high commission to Pakistan J.N Dixit was on two occasions summoned to the foreign office in Islamabad to be told about Pakistan’s concern at the developments in the valley.
