NEW DELHI-: Nominations for next month’s parliamentary and assembly polls touched 8000 as Jyoti Basu three former federal ministers and prominent opposition leaders entered the fray.

Rajesh Pilot a former federal minister filed his nominations for the Dhausa parliamentary seal in Rajasthan as Congress (I) candidate. Another former federal minister Sukhram is the party nominee for the Mandi parliamentary seat in Himachal.

Ajit Singh former industry minister has filed his nomination for the Baghpat parliamentary and Chaprauli assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh as the Janata Dal candidate

Others to enter the field were rightwing Bhartiya Janata Party leaders Mahant A vaidyanath from Gorakhpur Uttar Pradesh Jaswant Singh from Chittore and Vasundhara Raje Scindia from Jhalawar in Rajasthan.

Over 2500 nominations have been filed for the parliamentary polls while in Uttar Pradesh alone there are more than 2000 candidates for the state assembly.
