Three men intercepted the Uri Hydroelectric project vehicle carrying three foreign nationals one of them a woman and a baby girl near Gulmarg 45 km from here.
They dragged out Mr Geo Johnson an engineer and Mr Loaman and took them away to an unknown place while one of the militants is said to have driven Mrs Johnson and her child to Beerwah police station in Badgam district after five to six hour captivity sources said.
Although no militant outfit has owned responsibility for the kidnapping of the Swedish nationals official sources believe that it was done to get international publicity The foreign nationals were on their way from Uri 101 km from here in the border township of Baramulla to Gulmarg hill resort for skiing.
Elsewhere in the valley three militants were among four persons killed while 10 militants were arrested and four laid down their arms.
A senior police officer told PTI that two militants were shot dead by the security forces when they tried to sneak into the Indian side from Akhnoor sector of Jammu region last night. The infiltrators could not be identified immediately he said.
