PATIALA: Mr Simranjit Singh Mann president of the Akali Dal said here on Thursday that the Akali Dal working Committee had not taken any decision yet on whether it should take part in the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha elections if these were held in Punjab.
Talking to newsmen he however maintained that the people of Punjab should not be denied their democratic and constitutional rights.
He refuted the official contention that the International Human Rights Organisation had accepted the government’s viewpoint on the situation in Kashmir and Punjab and said that the organisation had been invited to assess the situation in these two states but the government had refused to grant them permission to make the visit.
Earlier addressing a public meeting at Anardana Chowk Mr Mann said that he expected atrocities on Sikh youths to increase with the deployment of the Army in the state.
He said that Punjab was in a state of confusion with the Central Government giving one direction the Army following other priorities and the state administration pursuing its own policies.
