VANCOUVERBC: The shooting of a young cast Vancouver mother was a cowardly and gutless act her husband Ranjit Singh Dosanjh said Wednesday.

“What kind of a person shoots a woman” asked Dosanjh looking drained after the ordeal Mar 27 when his wife Balwinder Kaur Dosanjh was hit in the left arm by a shotgun blast.

She was just stepping away from a kitchen window at the back of the house after turning on floodlights and noticed a masked figure near garbage cans in the alley he said. Then she was hit by the blast.

The 22-year-old woman a hospital worker remains under police guard at Bombay Hospital and police have also posted guards al the two-storey Boundary Road home across from Central Park.

The shooting was the culmination of a series of late night incidents at the home including a ringing doorbell and someone trying to peck through a downstairs window said Dosanjh.

Police are still guarding 67-ycarold Bikar Singh Dhillon who is recovering at home after being shot March 14 in an alley behind his east Vancouver home

Dhillon was president of the Khalsa Diwan Society and a leader of the Gurdwara on Ross Street. KDS spokesman Daljit Singh Sandhu said he believed the incident was connected to a conflict between opposing groups at the temple the Khalsa Diwan Society and the ISYF.

At the heart of the rift are opposing views on Khalistan. Both groups support the establishment of Khalistan but the KDS is considered more moderate.

Dosanjh local president of the International Sikh Youth Federation would not Suggest the latest shooting was connected with the shooting of Dhillon.

I can’t say somebody did it when I don’t know. I’m not ruling that out but I’m not saying it was the reason it was done either I can’t say anything until I’ve got something to back it up with

“The police seem to think a little bit different. They’ve given me security they’ve given my family security a police car’s going to be watching the house all the time there’s going to be policemen following me wherever I go”.

The couple’s young daughters aged two and four are being looked after by other members of the family.

Dosanjh said doctors told him the shooting may have permanently damaged his wife’s left arm. “She works in a hospital she’s got no enemies she’s a sweet lady” said Ranjit Singh Dosanjh a large and powerful looking 25-year-old long shore man and Vancouver native.

“She’s not the kind of person to cause arguments. She minds her own business. She works takes care of the kids raise her family and that’s it.”
