CHANDIGARH: Twenty nine passengers of a bus were dragged and shot dead Friday night by assailants in Ropar district while 17 persons including nine relatives of policemen were killed elsewhere March 22Over the week 117 persons lost their lives.
Gunmen stopped the bus carrying about 25 employees of a private sector automobile company Swaraj Mazda in between Rani Majra and Bhareli villages of the district around 1945 hrs and gunned down all of them police sources said.
The victims were lined up and then shot dead on the link road which had broken off from Kharar town located on the Chandigarh-Ropar national highway the sources said.
The gunmen before escaping set the bus on fire leaving the bodies at the spot. Senior police officers have reached the spot.
Director General of police D S Mangat however said only 22 bodies were recovered from the site where the massacre took place. He said there was no survivor.
Six militants including a top member of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) were among 14 persons killed March 20 police said. Mohinder Singh of the KCF was killed in an encounter with security forces in Tarn Taran district Tuesday night.
Police recovered one 12 caliber revolver three hand grenades two magazines two mini aluminum rockets and several cartridges from the site of encounter.

R D Jindal the principal of Arya College Dhuri in Sangrur district was gunned down at his home by two militants Saturday night.
They also gunned down Kulwant Singh of Sarhali in Tarn Taran police district.
